Nearly Aquaman...

G'day Shanes and Sheila's! (getting used to the lingo here ;) )

Today was my first days training at Scuba. After waiting half an hour for a pick up (they thought I started Monday instead) it was straight into the class room to listen tithe basics.

Well, there should be a discount for people that actually make it through that DVD, it's so patronising and cheesy which means only one thing, right? ....that's right, it's american.
It's all common sense stuff really, some things are useful but they could streamline it- only complete Noobs wouldn't pass theses tests - what with the instructor telling us the answers too!

Now my instructed, Paul, is a peculiar chap. At first glance, i mistook him for my cousin Terry who is out in Australia (somewhere), and this resemblance was almost confirmed with the existence of the infamous 'Howie Eyebrow'. Only a DNA test is more conclusive, and this is only done in extreme circumstances.
I only figured Paul wasn't Terry cos of his accent. Paul is Belgian and living in Cairns for 4 years, leading to possibly the most ridiculous accent I've ever heard! Odd cliche quotes are very Aussie ( sure maayte, alroit etc) but then others very much Belgian ( deez Tings, I love Gooooold, where are dee schmall Children, etc). Oddly, there was a bit of Russian in there too( not gonna do a Russian accent, that vud e childish ;))

Anyway after te class room stuff was done, into the pool. I have to say, after done a few times, it really is simple. And so amazing. Seriously, I can see why people get addicted, and I havnt even made it to the reef yet! Being able to breath under water is insane and so against Nature that you feel you're somehow cheating God.

Just one more day of class and Pool then it's off to Norman Reef, part of the Great Barrier. I cannot wait, gonna be mind blowing!

Anyways, tonights festivities at Calypso include a BBQ and a reptile show - not sure how linked the two are, if at all.

And before any one tells me, I know the football results, I don't need to be reminded. All I know is, you can't win them all, it/they wasnt/weren't sending off/s and the referee is a dick...
